The Wales TUC has produced a new toolkit for trade unionists looking at the issue of The Menopause in the Workplace.
The toolkit covers essential information about the menopause, looks at some of the common workplace issues and considers why the menopause is a key workplace health and safety and equality issue for trade unionists. It aims to help unions change the way the menopause is treated in the workplace. It offers practical tools for trade union reps including examples of workplace adjustments, ideas for action, surveys and mapping, a gender sensitive health and safety checklist, an example workplace policy and example risk assessment.
The toolkit is available in English and Welsh and has been produced in response to the survey carried out by the Wales TUC in 2016-17 which received almost 4000 responses and found that many women wished to see a change in the way the menopause is treated in the workplace. Full details of the survey findings and the accompanying campaign asks can be found here https://www.tuc.org.uk/research-analysis/reports/wales-tuc-pleased-publish-its-new-report-%E2%80%98-menopause-workplace-issue%E2%80%99
Hard copies of the toolkit are available on request. A 2-day classroom course for union reps and an online learning tool on the menopause are also under development.
